The first case of coronavirus hits Gibraltar
The GHA has confirmed that a person in Gibraltar has been identified as having the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19. The patient recently returned from Northern Italy via Malaga airport, are now self-isolating.
The bigger question is with over 14,000 cross frontier workers, what this could mean for the companies and do they follow other countries in remote working to contain the spread of COVID-19. As quoted by The Financial Times “The coronavirus sweeping the globe has led to the largest mass exercise in remote working in corporate history”! If there was a silver lining, locals could benefit from rush hour frontier queues being cut down at least.
A spokesperson said everyone is encouraged to practice high standards of personal hygiene, and in particular handwashing, whilst the GHA works hard to keep the people of Gibraltar safe.
